Wanna see the most generic Web 2.0 site ever?

October 29th 2009 11:05 pm by Matt

So I’m redesigning ListHippo (it’s gonna be blue/tan and pretty web 2.0-ey. A lot of inspiration from GoodBarry because I think it’s really clean and nice and – that’s another story). Anyway, I’ll usually get little ideas about a design that I like and want to use, but it’s tough to build an entire framework around those little ideas. I usually end up looking around all kinds of sites and checking out smashingmag and templates and stuff to try to find good ways to round it out. In doing so, I came across this this gem:

Woo Themes

If I ever have to describe “web 2.0″ to somebody ever again, I’m pointing them here. It’s so web 2.0 that it almost ceases to be anything else. Don’t get me wrong it’s good and functional, but that may be the most forgettable website ever.

Do yourself a favor.

Please, disperse this

I was going to write this article, but Flaherty has done it much more eloquently and thoroughly than I ever could. I am beyond sick of ignorant idiots spouting bullshit about the Federal Reserve.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Matt’s Garage… (one day)

October 9th 2009 12:30 pm by Matt

I got my first free MotorTrend magazine in the mail the other day. It far surpasses Popular Science as bathroom reading material. In fact, the only better bathroom reading I’ve had is a Calvin and Hobbes book. Anyway, all the car-reading I’ve been doing has had me thinking about cars lately, so I think I’ll post my dream-garage. When I’m worth a billion dollars, this is what I’ll have either parked in my garage or wrapped around a tree on a bendy road.

1. 2002 Passat W8

2002 Passat W8

I couldn’t write my current car out of this post. I just love it way too much. For just three years Volkswagen took the top-of-the-line Passat and crammed a monster 265hp 8 cylinder engine into it. Just to make it fit the cylinders had to be bunched together, giving it the distinctive “W” shape that provides the name. It proved to be a solid test bed for their later W8 and W12 models (including the Bentley Continental GT and the Phaeton).

The interior is simple and classy and the drive is outstanding. The exhaust note when you rev it up is as satisfying as any I’ve driven (or heard for that matter). A lot of the parts are taken straight off Audi’s A4 and S4 and the similarities are obvious if you’re looking for it. It’s also got a special place in my heart for being the first car I’ve truly owned. I may one day upgrade to a manual or a 2003 (the pictured year, actually) when it it inevitably explodes on me, but I will never pass on my W8.

The fucking bells

October 4th 2009 8:44 am by Matt

On these damn churches started at 8:00 this morning. Then they banged away for a full half an hour . They don’t play music, they just smash random bells as loud as possible. Do you think I’d get anywhere with calling in a noise complaint against a church? I mean there’s no way anyone else could get away with making this much fucking noise.

And oh good, after a 13 minute break they’ve just started up again. I’M UP YOU FUCKERS!
