Songs to Check Out:
My Life For Hire I'm Made Of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of NJ Legion Iced Tea Homesick

Comments:
This is a great mix of hardcore/rock/punk. Incredibly catchy hooks, melodic rhythm, head banging rock, just a great all around CD. Only has one not so great song, but it's just a min and a half filler. Been rocking this CD a weed or two now and it keeps growing on me. Check it out!

Senses Fail - Life Is Not a Waiting Room

Artist: Senses Fail
Album: Life Is Not a Waiting Room
Release Date: 2008-10-07

Songs to Check Out:
Garden State, Wolves at the Door, Blackout

Comments:
A little less "punk" and a little more rock than the past couple of albums. There are some pretty intense guitar solos throughout. Keep in mind that Senses Fail started pretty scream-o so I'm not saying we're going to be hearing this played next to Nickelback any time soon.

Senses Fail has long been hit or miss for me. Bite to Break Skin, Buried a Lie, Tie Her Down, You're Cute When You Scream, Still Searching, Stephen were all huge winners. They really got me with Let it Enfold You, there are a lot of them there. They also have some songs that I just can't stand. This new album doesn't have so many of those, but it's not really full up with the hits that just make me involuntarily rock out either.

Definitely check out the album and decide for yourself.

Nada Surf - Lucky

Artist: Nada Surf
Album: Lucky
Release Date: 2008-02-05

Songs to Check Out:
Whose Authority, Beautiful Beat, Weightless, Ice on the Wing

Comments:
Apparently Nada Surf has been around for quite a while. They actually sang "Popular" - that half angry talk/half chorus song from the mid 90s. I stumbled across them quite by accident, checked out a song and liked what I heard. I've been through Lucky only twice now, but I think I've got a good feel for it. It's a departure (thank God) from Popular, that's for sure.

It's kind of hit or miss. Nada Surf sounds like a generic punk/pop emo band but with some Coldplay and a splash of the Beatles thrown in. It makes for a pretty unique sound, which is nice to stumble across these days. Listen to "The Fox" and tell me you don't feel like you're right back in the seventies and tripping on acid.  It's not my favorite song but it does a good job showcasing their style. Some of the bands I run across are so generic they'll have little staying power, even if the music they make isn't half bad.

Artist: Matt Nathanson
Album: Some Mad Hope
Release Date: 2007-08-14

Songs to Check Out:
Car Crash, Come On Get Higher, Still,

Comments:
Very chill, perfect music. I'm unfortunately missing out on the chance to see Matt Nathanson play when he's here in Minneapolis in November. I've had this album for quite a while and I continue to come back to it when I'm looking for some outstanding chill music for a slow night.

It's very musical, makes me feel like I want to be there to hear him play it in a cozy small room with a fire and stuff. I really REALLY like the songs that I mentioned. If you like Come on Get Higher, Sugarland sings an outstanding cover of it.

Comments:
Well it took a few listens to really get in the right state of mind after having lived and breathed Cities for so long, but this CD DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! It's an unrelenting infusion of melody and rock New Surrender showcases a band still brimming with ideas and emotion, a band primed to finally see the audience it has so long deserved. Don't take my word for it though.

Introducing: Target Field

Sep 15, 09:03:08 AM, By: Matt, Comments: 0 Digg! Del.icio.us Reddit! rss

So I may have had a lot of the Target Kool-Aid, but I'm pretty darned happy with Target for this move.  Target announced today that they've partnered with the MN Twins for the naming rights to the new ballpark.  Target will also build a plaza between Target Center and the new Target Field aptly named "Target Plaza".  Here's the full press release:

Minnesota Twins and Target Announce New Partnership

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) and the Minnesota Twins today announced that they have reached an agreement in principle on an exclusive 25-year partnership that includes the naming rights for Target Field, the new world-class home of the Twins scheduled to open in 2010. The Incredible Hulk

Title: The Incredible Hulk (Three-Disc Special Edition)
Release Date 2008-10-21
Studio: Universal Studios

Comments:
I'm the first to admit I'm not some kind of comic purist, so I have no idea whether this movie was true to the series or anything like that. I know the basic gist of the story behind the Hulk and as far as I can tell it lives up to it. But hey - I was pretty proud of myself for recognizing Stan Lee in his cameo role... but I mostly recognized him from Mall Rats anyway. That's getting a bit off track already though.

I've always had a soft spot for the Hulk.  I like the premise, the super power and the weaknesses a lot more than I like most super hero stories.  That said - I wasn't expecting a lot from this movie, after reading about how much Edward Norton himself fought to have things changed in the final cut, but it was pretty damned entertaining.

There are a lot of plot holes (hey, maybe some more of those sonic guns would be good?  I dunno?), a lot of areas where the movie favored action instead of character development and any... MORE

Pineapple Express [Theatrical Release]

Title: Pineapple Express [Theatrical Release]
Release Date

Comments:
Wow. I had to let this movie sink in for a bit before writing a review on it because I just had no idea where I was going to go with it. Let me start by saying it doesn't deserve the 8.0 that it's snagging on IMDB right now. Low 7s sure, but not anywhere near an 8.0.

I'll warn you not to try with this movie if you're expecting a SuperBad or 40 year old virgin style romp. Get that straight out of your head now. This movie is fucking violent. I think more people die in this movie than the last Rambo. In fact, I think it's gotta be somewhere on the list of movies with the highest body count. I did NOT go in expecting that out of this movie so it was more than a little bit of a shock for me to see Seth Rogen wielding a pair of Glock 9mms. I went in looking for SuperBad plus weed. I hadn't paid that much attention to the previews and screenings so maybe I should have been better prepared.

That said - it is also hilarious. There's just no... MORE

The Tracey Fragments

Title: The Tracey Fragments
Release Date 2008-07-08
Studio: THINKFILM

Comments:
I do not have enough marijuana for this movie. This shit is the reason you have to be an elitist fuckwad to enjoy Indy films. It's not pretentious enough to be in black and white, but only because it can be more fucked up in full color. The entire movie is portrayed in split frames that shift in number and position. Sure, use split frames, but only if you're going to give us more of the story with it. Why the hell would you show 15 frames of the same thing at the same time? And then repeat it? There's nothing gained from this.

The acting and the story are good enough I suppose, except that like a lot of these Indy films you don't really end up in a different place at the end. The generally cute Ellen Page's voice just grates on me after only 20 minutes of this movie. Right in the middle of the movie there was a terrible schpeel about horses falling and becoming glue and kids eating glue and I almost lost it. It doesn't stop there. The movie... MORE

This group combines rap and rock together perfectly. Not the Linkin Park rap rock, this is something entirely new and it works great. Amazing guitar work and something I usually never say about rap, intelligent and masterfully delivered lyrics get it!

Step Brothers [Theatrical Release]

Jul 29, 06:41:23 AM, By: Josh, Comments: 3

Title: Step Brothers [Theatrical Release]
Release Date
Studio: Sony Pictures

Comments:
I've been wanting to see this one since work prevented me from going to an advance screening of it last Monday. I was pretty much expecting this to be a typical Will Ferrell movie; every bit as stupid as Taladega Nights and its kin. Admittedly, this movie is every bit as stupid as anything Will Ferrell has done, so that expectation was absolutely fulfilled. I have to say though, given that mind set, this was actually surprisingly funny.

Ferrell and Reilly seem to have hit that "Corey" spot with each other, and it definitely works here. Two step brothers of unusually advanced age (Ferrell and Reilly), clash violently until united by a hatred for Ferrell's older brother, Derek, played by Adam Scott. Once the two become friends antics and hilarity ensue, and so on, etc, etc.

Going into the movie I thought the whole 40 year-old step brothers living at home would be nothing more than a ridiculous gimmick and allow only for cheesy, bad humor. I was pleasantly... MORE
